Our Preschool - 4 year olds and Kindergarten students have the opportunity to participate in a pilot of an exciting SEL Curriculum in their classes this year. Lions Quest Skills for Growing (SFG) is an evidence-based PreK-5 program that integrates social and emotional learning, character development, drug and bullying prevention, and service-learning. Through a series of developmentally appropriate thematic units and lesson plans. The program helps create a school and classroom environment that promotes the positive student behaviors that lead to greater academic success.
Lions Quest programs are built on the foundation of an educational approach known as Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). SEL is a process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
In order to assess the effectiveness of Lions Quest in our classrooms, we would like our teachers to complete a brief questionnaire about each of their students before implementing Lions Quest and again in the spring. The Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) is a brief behavioral screening questionnaire about 3-16 year olds. SDQ asks about 25 attributes, some positive and others negative. These 25 items are divided between 5 scales: 1) emotional symptoms, 2) conduct problems, 3) hyperactivity/inattention, 4) peer relationship problems, and 5) prosocial behavior. Please review the questionnaire or ask your child’s teacher for a copy to review.
